HOW TO FIND YOUR CENTER HOLE
The center hole is the point where your belt should feel the most comfortable while wearing your favorite pair of pants. Five holes is the standard number of holes for a belt, however since our belts are made to order, you can request any number of holes that you would like! People that wear a variety of pants styles such as high waisted and mid rise may wish to have seven holes for extra adjustability.
To find your center hole, follow the steps below
Be sure you are wearing pants with belt loops.
Loop a measuring tape through the loops of your pants.
Record the size at the most comfortable point - this is your center hole!
You can repeat this process with high waisted or low rise jeans, or even with a dress that you’d like a custom belt for. If you need your belt to fit a wide variety of garments, be sure to request extra holes. CAN’T I JUST GIVE YOU MY PANTS SIZE?
Unfortunately no, using your pants size is not an accurate measurement of your waist. This is because the size of your pants can vary depending on where you buy your clothes. For example, according to the size guides, a Men’s size 38 at Levi’s fits waist sizes 38.5” - 39”. Compare to a pair of 38 Men’s Wrangler jeans, which fits only waist size 38” according to the Wrangler size chart. For this reason, American Ruin does not offer pre-sized belts. Our leather crafters cut each belt from the hide, and leave each length of leather full size until it is purchased. This way, we never waste leather, and we always have the color you want in your exact size! Taking the time to properly measure your waist will ensure that your belt is a perfect fit for years to come.
A note about buying belts as a gift – If you are buying a belt as a gift, avoid guessing waist sizes to prevent ill fitting belts! Instead surprise your recipient with a gift certificate, or even visit our shop for even more options! Your person will love the experience of having a belt custom made right before their eyes. The process takes only 15 to 25 minutes.
